New - Sub-Project Time Booking: Streamlining Resource Management Across Workstreams
Managing resource allocations across multiple workstreams or iterations has often been a challenge in project and portfolio management. Previously, resources could only book time against projects they were explicitly allocated to, requiring project managers to allocate the same resources multiple times across related sub-projects. The new Sub-Project Time Booking feature simplifies this process, enabling resources allocated at the parent project level to book time directly to any sub-projects within that structure — provided the parent project allows sub-project time booking.
This enhancement is particularly valuable in Agile environments, where organisations often structure projects around a product (parent project) with workstreams or value streams (sub-projects) representing distinct iterations or flows of work aligned to business objectives. With this new feature, overall resource commitment is managed at the product (parent project) level, while teams can book time at the workstream or value stream level, ensuring accurate tracking of actuals without the administrative overhead of repeated allocations.
How it works
To enable Sub-Project Time Booking, the parent project must be configured to allow time booking across its sub-projects. Project administrators can activate this by navigating to the project settings and enabling the ‘Allow Time Booking to Child Projects’ option.
Once enabled:
- Allocate resources to the parent project – Resources only need to be assigned at the parent project level rather than to each individual sub-project.
- Add resources as team members to relevant sub-projects – No additional allocation is required at the sub-project level; simply ensure that the resource is recognised as part of the sub-project team.
- Sub-projects appear automatically in the resource’s timesheet – The resource’s timesheet will display the parent project and its associated sub-projects. Resources can select the specific projects they worked on and log their hours accordingly.
This approach significantly reduces the administrative burden on project managers while providing flexibility for teams to book time where it's most relevant, ensuring accurate tracking without unnecessary resource reassignments.
New Governance Overview Report: Strengthening Assurance and Compliance
The new Governance Overview Report enhances project governance oversight by providing a structured and transparent view of governance assessments across the portfolio. Designed for PMOs and Assurance Managers, this report enables organisations to track compliance, monitor governance exceptions, and take proactive action without the need for manual reviews. By embedding governance insights directly into project dashboards, it ensures that governance is managed as an integral part of the project lifecycle rather than a retrospective exercise.
The report shows each project's overall governance assessment, categorised as Good, Borderline, or Needs Improvement, helping PMOs focus on projects requiring intervention. The report also breaks down governance performance across key capabilities, such as impacts, financials, resourcing, risks and issues, schedule adherence, and collaboration, providing clear visibility into areas where projects meet governance standards and where corrective action is needed.
With assessment summaries offering concise insights, PMOs can ensure governance requirements are met, risks are addressed early, and projects remain compliant with organisational policies and assurance frameworks. This structured approach helps drive better governance practices, improves accountability, and strengthens decision-making at the portfolio level.
To access this report:
- you can either switch to the Governance Summary layout from any project dashboards
- or, you can switch to the Governance View from the status report component.
Enhancements and Fixes
Released Funding Tracking: We've improved the released funding functionality to provide a clearer distinction between released funding and total project funding. This update enhances visibility and simplifies financial tracking.
Project Details Bulk Edit: Project administrators can now use Project Details bulk edit to bulk archive projects.
Timesheet Recall Validation: If a recalled timesheet contains entries for projects whose statuses prevent timesheet submissions, users must set the hours to zero before resubmitting. This ensures compliance with timesheet submission rules and maintains data integrity.
Rate Card Bulk Edit: Fixed an issue where financial administrators did not have the rights to upload the file.
13th February Patch Release
Enhancements and Fixes
- Portfolio Bulk Edit: Resolved an issue that prevented portfolios from being deleted via bulk edit.
Project Schedule Validations: Implemented new validations to prevent circular dependencies between schedule tasks, ensuring a more reliable and structured project timeline.
6th February Patch Release
Fixed
- Timesheet Export: Restored the 'Month', 'OriginalDate', 'TotalAmount' and 'TotalHours' columns in the timesheet export to Excel available from the project dashboard and workspace, providing comprehensive data for accurate time tracking and financial reporting.
- Governance UI: Enhanced the governance user interface to handle scenarios where no valid reports are available.
4th February Patch Release
New - Gantt View for All Project Members
Users with view-only access can now use the 'View Gantt' option on the project workspace to access the Gantt chart, providing a comprehensive visual representation of project timelines, task dependencies, and progress.
This enhancement ensures that all stakeholders, regardless of their editing permissions, have access to critical project insights, fostering better communication and informed decision-making. Project Managers will continue to have the 'Edit Gantt' option, maintaining their ability to manage and adjust project plans as needed.
New - Independent AI-Generated Governance Comments
We have decoupled the Fluid AI feature from the AI-generated comments in project governance assessment tests. A new option on the Setup Project Features page allows the AI job to run even if the Fluid AI feature is disabled for users. This ensures that projects can benefit from AI-generated insights in governance assessments while maintaining control over user-level AI access.
Fixed
- Project Dashboard: Resolved an issue where filtering by Project Managers returned projects that they previously managed but no longer oversee.
- Project Permissions: Corrected a problem where former Project Managers retained edit rights on projects they no longer manage.
- Schedule View Filtering: Enhanced the filtering functionality in the schedule view for improved accuracy.
3rd February Patch Release
Fixed
- My Items dashboard: Resolved an issue where filter was not being applied for items seen on My Items dashboard.
